Year Two Math: The Montessori Way

In Year Two, we continue where we left off in Year One, building on a strong foundation with lively, short video lessons. Children receive the same lessons they would experience in an Internationally Certified Montessori classroom.

As in every year of elementary, we begin with the inspiring Story of Numbers before moving into new concepts. This year, children are introduced to multiplication and division, not just as operations, but as ideas that bring clarity and make memorization easier. Through engaging lessons that feel like mathematical games, children practice and internalize facts while also touching upon the beginnings of algebra.

The ultimate goal is to help each child confidently transition to working in abstraction. We also study fractions, starting with understanding equivalence using hands-on materials, then moving into addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators, and finally exploring multiples.

Year Two is full of discovery, hands-on practice, and joyful math exploration, all designed to help children see mathematics as clear, approachable, and deeply meaningful.
