Year One Biology: The Montessori Way
We begin the year with the extraordinary Story of Life, setting the stage for a year of discovery. The rest of the year is divided into two main studies: Zoology and Botany.
In Zoology, children explore the external parts of fish and amphibians. They carry out extensive research and create projects on topics that spark their curiosity about these fascinating animals.
In Botany, we begin with the accompanying story and a study of the parts of plants. From there, children dive into exciting experiments to deepen their understanding. This year, we focus on roots, examining them hands-on to discover their parts, their functions, and the different types.
All Montessori materials are provided in PDF format, giving you everything needed to support hands-on learning and research.
What’s Included in Biology Year One:
- Short, Interactive Video Lessons: Children are guided through the Story of Life, the parts of plants, and the external parts of fish and amphibians. Lessons include experiments, research opportunities, and hands-on exploration.
- Botany and Zoology Booklets (PDF Format): Printable booklets that guide children step by step through their studies.
- Classified Nomenclature (PDF Format): Montessori-style materials to support learning vocabulary and classification in both botany and zoology.
- Follow-Up Activities: Engaging projects, research work, and experiments to deepen understanding and encourage independent discovery.
Please Note: This class does not include progress reports. The adult is responsible for ensuring the child understands the concepts and progresses through the material.
